A world map shows information about different continents and countries, and a brain map shows information about different parts of the brain. Brain Mapsīrain maps are one component of EduCortex. When you click “Go,” the brain will again change color, and brain regions that are highly linked to the search word will appear in red. Try typing in a word like “language,” “face,” or “memory.” You can also enter anatomical words, if you know them, such as “occipital”-the brain lobe that processes information from the eyes. ![]() There is also a search box on the left side of the screen. This is because, for most tasks, the brain works in networks of regions that talk to each other. You might notice that most search terms do not map to just one single part of the brain. Red parts of the brain are regions that are associated with the term that you clicked, with a darker red indicating a stronger association-these are regions most involved in the function described by the word that you clicked. Try clicking one of these terms and the brain will change color. These are the terms that are most associated with the brain region that you clicked (within 6 millimeters). If you click anywhere on the brain, a list of underlined words will be displayed on the left side of the screen. It may take a few seconds (longer on slower machines we tested on a Macbook Pro and a Mac Pro), but you will get an intermediate box like the one above (for frequency tables). If you haven't already selected the range of data you want, the program will still put you into Excel, where you can select what you want and then return by clicking on StatPlus in the dock or cloverleaf-tabbing back. The analyses menu provides simple, easily understood categories, and underneath those are submenus with the actual operations. StatPlus itself is a fairly small, fast-loading program that has a small number of menus - one that launches Excel one that provides statistical analyses and one that manipulates data. Why not just use Excel to hold the data and the findings? StatPlus does just that. SPSS 17 even has a moderately clunky "Excel export mode." In the end, many copy tables out of SPSS or R or Stata and paste them into Excel. Many people end up using Excel, Numbers, or OpenOffice to prepare their data and make simple tables, and then go into serious statistical machines to run analyses. The basic idea is quite clever, because the key weakness of many statistical packages is their spreadsheet-style data view, which is usually missing, clunky, or very clunky. Because of this, it is fast and has none of the usual quirks of Windows ports. StatPlus is based on a Windows program, but AnalystSoft reprogrammed it completely in Applescript, optimized for either Intel or PPC (which means it takes advantage of the G4 and G5’s math capabilities). ![]() That said, watch this space and we’ll try to get up to date before AnalystSoft figures out what we want and gives it to us. My grown up daughter and I stayed in Ellenbeich at Garragh Mhor for 2 nights recently and booked because of the 9.5 star reviews and the photos posted by previous travellers. Park at the far end of the car park near the house. Continue in a sweep round to the right, to the very end. When the track forks, look out for the painted Bumble Bee sign at the foot of the wall and take the left hand fork. On your left will be a quarry pool - skirt the pool until you see the village sign for "Ellenabeich" - TURN RIGHT HERE - up a track this is signed on the corner to "Garragh Mhor". Keep going a short way and you will see Ellenabeich Primary School on your right, followed by the gardens "An Cala" also on the right. Continue sharp right, still on the B844, follow the road as it wiggles past the Tin Church and down the hill onto the sea front at Sea View. You will cross onto the Isle of Seil using the famous "Bridge over the Atlantic" at Clachan and pass the "Tigh an Truish", an 18th century inn and continue on until you see the signs for Balvicar Stores and the Golf Course on your left.
